Ingredients (for the crust):

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 ½ cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon white sugar

Ingredients (for the toppings):

  • 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce
  • ¼ cup onion, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup canned pineapple chunks, drained
  • 1 cup deli ham, sliced into small squares
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions:

Step 1: Make the crust.

Combine the yeast, warm water and sugar in a mixing bowl. Let the mixture stand for about 5 minutes, stirring it once or twice during this time. The mixture should get foamy. Add 1 ½ cups flour, along with the olive oil and salt, and then mix on medium speed for 1 minute. Slowly stir in the remaining 1 cup of flour. A rather stiff dough should form.

Turn this dough out onto a floured surface, and knead it for 6 minutes. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it sit in a warm place for 90 minutes. Punch the dough down, and then shape it into a ball. Let this ball rest on a baking sheet for 15 minutes. Then, stretch it out into a crust. Aim to make your crust about ½ inch thick throughout.

Step 2: Prepare the toppings and top the pizza.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Let your crust sit for a minute as you heat the olive oil in a skillet, and then sauté the sliced onion until it is tender.

Spread the barbecue sauce over your pizza crust, and then add the mozzarella cheese. Spread out the ham, pineapple and onion.

Step 3: Bake the pizza.

Place your pizza in a 400 degree F oven. Let it bake for 18 – 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bottom of the crust is golden brown. Let cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.

Keep leftovers in the refrigerator. They're delicious when eaten cold or when heated up in a 350 degree F oven for 10 minutes. Avoid heating the leftover pizza in the microwave as it will become soggy.
